The relationship between Jamie Webster and Liverpool FC
There is no secret that the City of Liverpool has a special relationship with music with the likes of The La’s, The Wombats, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Lightning Seeds and most famously The Beatles. Music is ingrained in the city and makes Liverpool such a culturally important city across the world. One man who is continuing that tradition with all the expected Scouse gusto and arrogance (of the right kind) is Jamie Webster.
The Liverpool-born singer-songwriter is selling out tours and becoming a must-see on the festival scene but he made his breakthrough thanks to Liverpool Football Club.
So who is the Scouse sensation?
Jamie Webster – The sparky with a guitar
Webster optimises what it means to be Scouse and have that true sense of a working-class background, which has kept him incredibly grounded despite his excellent rise through the music scene. Born in Norris Green, Webster trained and worked as an electrician, but his family told him to keep going with his music.
Had a boss time playing in Caldicot Castle on Friday – what a venue. Nice one to everyone who came down to see me and the band. 🏰☀️ pic.twitter.com/GDVYa7XpIG

Making his name through the pub scene, Webster was becoming well established, but looking to get that break that he so truly deserved was thanks to Liverpool FC. Although he wanted to play his own music, he knew he was able to make money through playing covers of bands. Webster has stated in an interview, “I started doing cover gigs round town for a bit of extra cash,” he explains. “Still writing my own songs but basically singing what people liked. Stuff by The Jam, Oasis, The Coral and Dylan, but BOSS made me quite a popular lad in circles within Liverpool, especially at the match.
“Some lads found out I play a few tunes and I started doing gigs at the end of games. No one had any idea it was going to take off. We were doing it because we love football and music and wanted to bring it together.”
The BOSS nights he is talking about were put on by LFC and helped Webster onto his next major scene to notoriety. With songs being sung around the Kop inspired by Webster, like his Jordan Henderson chant, he was able to take that combination of football and music one step further.
The European Champions League
Madrid. 2019. Plaza Felipe II. Webster is performing to 50,000 fans all wanting to get “their Scouse on” as they prepare for the Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur. Webster delivered an exhilarating performance in the blistering Spanish sunshine to fans with his performance going viral.
This performance accelerated Webster out of just Liverpool circles into national circles. He was becoming known in music circles, and it gave him an opportunity to get his own songs out to the world.
We Get By- First album release
Webster was able to use his Liverpool platform to get his first album out, We Get By, in 2020. Whilst being written during his time of working in the club scene and rise thanks to Liverpool FC, Webster was able to get his own work out into the world to great acclaim.
The album focused on social issues, hopefulness, and each track had meaning to it. There were no filler songs and just incredible range in an ambitious first album. Webster does not shy away from issues in his songs and nor does he avoid having a great time in them.
Standout tracks that helped him gain number 8 in the iTunes charts and number 1 in the Singer-Songwriter charts, streaming over 100,000 times in the first week of release, was Weekend in Paradise which is his most well-known and loved song. The song is a stomping, anthem style song which gets the crowd going.
The other track that is well known and is close to people’s hearts in Liverpool is “This Place”. Webster sings about his hometown of Liverpool with love and hope, embracing the city for what it is and showing how proud he is of Liverpool. Despite the song being about Liverpool exclusively, the song resonates with people from other towns who love their hometown.
Two more album releases
The first album was just a taster of Webster. With Moments and 10 For the People following, the proud Scouser has grown in confidence and is well within the mainstream of the indie music scene. Moments again reflects on social issues and with its release in 2022, the COVID-19 pandemic is very prevalent with Webster’s quite obvious dislike for the Conservatives (anyone who has seen him live will know the chant that fits there).
Songs like Davey Kane strike a chord, and listening to the album inspires you to want to do something and more for your society.
His latest release continues the theme of social aspects affecting the world that need to change. For example, Voice of the Voiceless features as a prevalent track against social injustice in this country.
Liverpool Football Club- Still so close
Despite all the success, Webster does not forget his club and features on many podcasts discussing the club, follows them home and away, but also continues to perform for the club on special occasions.
Most recently, in 2024, Webster went back to his roots and performed for BOSS to celebrate the times of Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool Football Club. Performing exceptional songs such as a true Liverpool classic in Poor Scouser Tommy, and showing his love and appreciation for their captain, Virgil Van Dijk.
Songs sung by Webster are sung at Anfield and they are a real experience. With the Premier League Champions selling out most weeks, LFC Football tickets at the best price are available so fans can get their singing voices on like Webster.
