Sephora Liverpool is Open! All You Need to Know

As a city, Liverpool is a place where people often head in order to experience something great.

Whether it be a night out, a title-winning trophy parade or a new venue opening up, the people of Liverpool know how to have a good time. It is part of the reason why numerous different brands use the city as the perfect place to host the likes of a new store opening, knowing that simple word of mouth will generate a buzz that will be enough to get people turning up from that moment on.

That might explain why Sephora has opened a shop in the centre, but what is it and why should you care?

About the Brand

First things first, then, and a look at the brand itself. If you have a feeling that you’ve seen it somewhere before, the chances are high that you have. Sephora first launched in the August of 1970 in Paris, being named after the wife of Moses.

It remained a relatively small company in the first few decades of its existence, but in 1993 it was purchased by Dominique Mandonnaud, who chose to merge it with the perfume chain that he opened whilst keeping the Sephora name. He is largely credited with coming up with the ‘assisted self-serving’ model that the chain became known for.

Aware that most of his customers would be female, he encouraged them to test products across the company’s numerous retail locations before buying them, knowing that it would encourage faith in the products themselves. Throughout the 1990s, he continued to expand the brand before selling it to LVMH in the July of 1997.

The new ownership continued the expansion, entering the likes of the Middle East market and moving online. Having opened its first store in the United States of America in 1998, Sephora opened its 400th in North America in the August of 2016.

A Place to Head for Brands

If you are looking to buy some beauty products, Sephora is absolutely the place to go. The company works with more than 300 brands to be able to offer customers a huge amount of choice when it comes to what they’re looking for. That is without even mentioning Sephora’s own line of make-up and skincare, amongst other things.

If you want perfume, then you can get a host of different ones in store, whilst everything from skin care to more luxury offerings is available. It is fair to say that not everyone would see that as a reason to camp outside before it opened for the first time, but each to their own.

The decision to queue up from more than 12 hours before the store was due to open might have been due to the shop confirming that the first 500 people would receive a free gift, or it might be because it was the first time that the brand had opened a shop in the city.

Many of the brands offered by Sephora aren’t available in other shops, which is why Sephora has been able to make such a strong name for itself with consumers. Regardless of the reasoning, it is a shop that has proven to be extremely popular with Scouse customers known for their desire to always look their best.

Where is It?

You might find yourself wondering where in Liverpool Sephora is located. As you might imagine, it is part of the Liverpool ONE shopping centre, being installed in the location that was HMV when the area first opened its doors. After that, it became a Foot Locker, but now it is Sephora that you can find there.

Boasting around 6,727 square feet of real estate, it is technically on South John Street if you’re looking for a street address to put into your maps application of choice. The reason it is as popular as it is is thanks to the fact that TikTok and Instagram users regularly release videos about it.

Sephora isn’t alone in seeing huge queues lining up outside the store prior to its opening, however. Uniqlo also opened a shop in the city recently and also saw hundreds of people lining up to get a glimpse of what was inside before anyone else. Even that wasn’t quite the madness that the Liverpool ONE saw for Sephora, however.

Many of the people queueing up were younger than you might imagine, following the trend of those social media stars telling them that what was available was well worth their time. The opening of the two venues is part of the reason why Liverpool ONE has enjoyed one of its biggest years since it opened.
