When Baz Luhrmann released the film, Moulin Rouge, in 2001, the world went crazy for it. 2 Oscars, 3 Golden Globes and 3 BAFTA’s later, and the film became a smash hit musical, itself winning 10 Tony awards. It has been delighting audiences almost non-stop ever since.

The current world tour began back in 2025, and will visit the Liverpool Empire for over a month, showing from the 2nd of July to the 8th of August 2026.

That means you will have plenty of opportunities to see it, but it also means they are expecting it to be popular, so booking early is advised – especially if you want good seats!

The Moulin Rouge creates a world of splendour, glamour, glitz, and excess, filled with bohemians and aristocrats rubbing shoulders and often, getting up to no good.

…and loads more. The music is made up of re-imagined versions of existing hits, and there have even been some more recent additions such as Chandelier.

These songs tell the story of Christian, and impoverished writer, and Satine, a courtesan from the Moulan Rouge, who fall in love in 1899, but face a threat from the jealous and possessive Duke. It’s sexy, dramatic, full of fun, laughter, and moments that will make you cry.

Tickets and Prices

Shows run Monday to Saturday at 7:30pm, with matinees at 2:30pm on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Tickets are more expensive on Fridays and Saturdays, and cheaper at the start of the week, but the price range is very wide whenever you choose to go. At their most expensive, you are looking at the following price bandings:

The venue is good for sightlines from pretty much anywhere, but as you would expect, the more expensive your ticket the closer you will be to the stage and the more detail you will be able to see.

The age guidance is 12+, and strobe lighting will be used.
