Mary Poppins: Liverpool Empire – 14th to 31st January
It’s Mary blinkin’ bleedin’ Poppins! And it is showing at the Liverpool Empire for a limited season of just 3 weeks from the 14th to the 31st of January.
I am talking about Mary Poppins the Musical, a joint production between Cameron Mackintosh and Disney. You don’t get much bigger names than that in the theatre biz, so this will be a spectacular production on every level.
You all know the story already: Mary Poppins arrives at the London home of the Banks family to be their children’s nanny, and transforms their lives through imagination, discipline, and wonder, helping both the children and their parents rediscover joy, balance, and what truly matters in life.
It stars a pair of Australian performers, named Stefanie Jones and Jack Chambers, who got rave reviews last time they took on the roles, and they will be joined by a West End quality cast singing all of the old songs by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, as well as some additional music from George Stiles and Anthony Drewe. Julian Fellowes of Downton Abbey fame wrote the book, and acclaimed director Richard Eyre is in the driving seat.
In other words, the cast and creative team are the very best the industry has to offer. In fact, it has been described in one review as “Practically Perfect in Every Way”.
