Liverpool Airport Parking: Your Best Options
As a city, Liverpool sees itself as being one of the best in the world. Ask a Scouser what they think of Liverpool in relation to anywhere else and the vast majority will tell you that it’s the very best.
We all know deep down that that isn’t really true, but there is certainly a lot to be proud of. There remain numerous different things that those in charge of the city regularly get wrong, however, with the parking at Liverpool John Lennon Airport being one.
It might be seen as a gateway to the rest of the world, but if you want to leave your car there whilst you’re away then it’s going to cost you a fortune.
The Official Car Park
When it comes to parking at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, you actually have a number of options open to you. Something of a cottage industry has sprung up around the location, with numerous different companies giving you the option of parking your car nearby and getting a shuttle to the airport for significantly less than the official car park.
We will look at those options in more detail shortly, but it is worth having a look at the official car park first. There are numerous reasons why you might like to park there, not the least of which is the convenience open to you if you do so.

As long as you have booked in advance and given your details over, you can drive straight up to the entry and Automatic Number Plate Recognition will see the barrier lift and your car able to drive in. If you didn’t pre-book, you will have to press the button to get a ticket.
The car parks are monitored by CCTV, whilst the fact that the car parks are on the site of the airport itself means that you can’t get a more convenient location. The Meet & Greet car park sees you hand your keys over to someone else and then collect them at the end of your trip in order to be able to drive home.

Whilst the convenience is something that many people will opt for, the reality is that you have to pay handsomely for the experience. Charges are based on a cost per day or part thereof, as well as 20% VAT which is included.
As an example, if you were to park your car at 3pm on the 12th of September, booking and paying a month before departure, then return to your car at 7pm on the 19th of September, you would pay £100.99 for the ParkSmart option, £116.99 to be in the Long Stay car park, £120.99 for the Meet & Greet service or £136.99 for the Multi-Storey option.
Drop Off Options
If you are looking to drop someone off at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, then your options are limited. There is an express drop-off and pick-up section, which charges £6 for ten minutes, £10 for 20 minutes, £25 for up to an hour and £50 for up to 24 hours and for each 24 hours thereafter.
The area surrounding the airport is a red zone, which means that you are not allowed to stop at any time. If you stop in order to let someone jump out of the car, regardless of the reason why, you will be hit with a fine from the private company that owns and runs the car park on behalf of the airport.
There is another drop-off car park where you can stop for free in order to let someone out or pick someone else up, but you only get 20 minutes for free and then you are charged afterwards. Suffice it to say, the people who use the airport are not fans of the money-grabbing nature of the company that is responsible for running the car park at Liverpool John Lennon.
If, for example, you are disabled and you are looking to drop someone off, you still need to pay the fee or park miles away from the airport. It is only when the person flying is disabled that you get any free parking.
Parking Elsewhere: Best Alternatives
There are numerous different companies that offer you the ability to park close to the airport at one of their third-party sites. With one, for example, the same dates and times that would cost you more than £100 if you parked in the airport’s official parking areas would cost you £81.98, which is obviously significantly cheaper.
It is also worth mentioning that you can usually find discount codes online for these car parks that can see the price reduced even further, which is very much worth bearing in mind before you pay through the nose for the right to park your car anywhere.

Part of the reason why the costs are so high is that there is basically no convenient way to get to Liverpool John Lennon Airport without driving. Unlike the likes of Manchester Airport, Gatwick Airport or Heathrow Airport, where you can get a train pretty much straight to the terminal, Liverpool has no such option.
Instead, the best that you can do is to head to Liverpool South Parkway Station and then get a connecting bus through to the airport. Obviously, if you’re looking to keep prices down then that is an option, but it also allows the car park to gouge people for money.
