Family Weekend at The Bluecoat – 6th and 7th September

Family Weekend at The Bluecoat – 6th and 7th September

Slap bang in the city centre is The Bluecoat, a Grade I listed building, and the home of contemporary art in Liverpool. They have all sorts there as well as loads of art exhibitions, such as shops, small businesses, a cafe, a very popular garden, and event spaces.

On the weekend of the 6th and 7th of September, the Bluecoat Family Weekend will be taking place, where families are invited to come and take part in a range of creative activities under the watchful eye of a professional artist called Lou Miller. The activities are all self-led, but Lou will be there to help and advise if needed.

The kids will be able to make their own badges, their own zines (mini magazines), have a go at screen printing which is great fun, and lots more. They can also contribute to a largescale mobile that will be hung in a real exhibition at the Bluecoat gallery in October.

The rest of the building will be open too, so there will be lots of other interesting stuff to look at.

Bluecoat Family Weekend Art

What with this being an a subsidised arts centre and all, there is absolutely no charge for this event. Winner. The whole point is to promote the arts and invite families into the space in the hope they will become regular visitors, so the family weekend and all of the events that are part of it are free.

They receive funding from Arts Council England and Liverpool City Council, among others, so you have them to thank.

You don’t even need to book a place, since this is a drop in event. That means you can show up at any point over the weekend during the Family Weekend opening hours.

It’s only open between 1pm and 4pm each day, so it’s not a huge window, but if you plan your day right you can go after lunch and spend a creative afternoon as a family and even come away with a few pieces you have made.
