Everton vs Liverpool – 7th December 2024
The Merseyside derby is back.
On Saturday 7th December 2024, Liverpool FC will travel the very short distance to Goodison Park to take on local rivals, Everton. This will be their first meeting of the 2024/25 season, with Liverpool leading the league but coming off the back of facing Man City who are right behind them.
They might be at opposite ends of the table, but no Liverpool fan should expect Everton to be a walkover. Not at Goodison Park. Not at a derby. Not when local pride is at stake.
The last time the Reds and the Toffees faced each other was in April, at Goodison Park, and Everton won that game 2-0. Liverpool will want to get their own back this time around, and their new manager, Arne Slot, won’t want his first Merseyside derby to be a loser.
Salah and Diaz are both on fine form at the moment and Liverpool are not conceding many at all. On the other hand, Everton has a great mix of youth, experience and quality at the back in Jarrad Branthwaite and Ashley Young, and if Pickford is on form they could prove a tough line to break for Salah and co.
It’s not unfair to say that Dwight McNeil, Dominic Calvert Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye will have a tougher task at the other end of the pitch though. No one looks forward to going up against Virgil van Dijk and his defensive line.
How to Watch
Tickets to watch the game live are about as rare a hens teeth, so good luck getting into the stadium.
To get Everton tickets you need to be a club member, and even then it’s a bit of a lottery. As an away fan, especially a Liverpool fan, the allocation is very small in the first place but you also need a certain number of attendances for home games. Basically, if you have to ask how to get tickets you aren’t going to get one.
You can’t even buy hospitality tickets as these are sold out for the season.
Your only option then is to watch live on the telly.
If you want the best atmosphere then pubs close to the grounds are your best bet. The Albert is well known for Liverpool fans and Evertonians have the Winslow Hotel. Both will show the game but are also so close you can hear it if you sit near the window.
I should hope it goes without saying that walking into an Everton pub in your Liverpool is shirt is not a good idea though, and vice verser.
