Conteh – Liverpool Royal Court: 17th of April to 9th of May 2026

A play about a true local legend will begin its run at the Liverpool Royal Court on the 17th of April. Conteh, the true story of John Conteh, one of the best boxers to come out of Liverpool, will run until the 9th of May 2026.

It has been written by Aron Julius (Boys From The Blackstuff and a new star of BBC One‘s Casualty) who also stars in the show as the titular character, and he is joined by a fabulous cast who regular theatre goers may well recognise:

  • Amber Blease
  • Helen Carter
  • Zach Levene
  • Mark Moraghan

The Royal Court always cast great local talent and this production is no exception.

The play will tell the true story of John Conteh, from his start as a 10 year old fighting out of a club in Kirkby, to winning the Commonwealth Games aged 19, and becoming the Light Heavyweight Champion of the World aged just 24. It will go into his personal life too, covering both his sporting and his personal highs and lows, giving more insight into the man than ever before.

Tickets and Prices

Liverpool Royal Court has quite a complicated selection of ticket prices, from standard seats, to seats with dining included, two seater sofas, and also different prices on different nights/matinees.

So, here are the standard seat prices from a Friday or Saturday evening:

  • Stalls Standard – £29.00
  • Circle Standard – £25.00

You can get them up to a fiver cheaper at a matinee or an evening performance earlier in the week, and there are no fees for tickets bought for Conteh.

The doors open from 5:45 and the bars will be open before the show.

There is a bit of swearing, and a bit of fighting too, just in case you are thinking of bringing younger folk with you, or your gran.
