British Science Festival – Various Locations: 10th-14th September

It’s been a long time since the British Science Festival was held in Liverpool – not since 2008, in fact – but it is back for 2025. From the 10th to the 14th of September, various iconic cultural venues around Liverpool will be playing host to shows, demonstrations, and talks that will excite and entertain in equal measure.

It offers a real mix of experiences, from family events that are great for kids, to more serious events aimed at adults with a deeper understanding of all things scientific. This includes things as diverse as comedy shows, hands on workshops, dynamic performances, interactive experiences and loads more.

The whole things has been put together by some of the world’s leading scientists who collaborated with local communities to explore subjects such as health, sport, space, forensics, psychology, wildlife, nature, and more – all through a scientific lens, of course.

Just a few of the events on offer include:

  • Football for robots
  • Fungal galaxies: Journey inside plants
  • In conversation with Robin Saxby: Pioneering engineer
  • Liverpool in space
  • The greatest science demonstrations. Ever!

Incredibly, the festival is now in its 194th year. That’s not a typo. It’s almost 200 years old!

Tickets and Prices

Not only are there over 100 different events taking place over the course of the festival, but they are all absolutely free.

You will have to book tickets because most venues have capacity limits, but you won’t have to pay for them.

Every event is different, some may have age restrictions too, so you will have to see what is available and find out the specifics on a case by case basis, but most events are very accessible and suitable for most people.

Venues include places like Liverpool Cathedral, Museum of Liverpool, Royal Albert Dock, Unity Theatre, and University of Liverpool, as well as smaller venues. They are all picked to suit the event they are hosting.
